What is the World Video Game Hall of Fame
Video games are the largest cornerstone of the entertainment industry, with over $190 billion in sales in 2021. So naturally, it makes since to have a Video Game Hall of Fame.
Located inside The National Museum of Play, in Rochester, New York, the World Video Game Hall of Fame was founded in 2015. It is overseen by The Strong (an interactive, educational institution devoted to the study of play) and The International Center for the History of Electronic Games.
Nominees for induction are taken from the general public. The finalists get selected by an internal committee, and the inaugural inductees are selected by an international committee of individuals, scholars, and journalists.
For a game to be eligible it must meet four criteria; Icon Status, Longevity, Geographical Reach, and Influence.
